We're so excited to welcome you to Finland for our wedding next summer! For our out of town friends, you'll most likely fly to Helsinki Airport (HEL/Vantaa). From there, it's an easy and scenic train trip to Vaasa by using VR, Finland’s national rail service.
Helsinki Airport has a train station located directly below the terminals. No need for a shuttle — just follow the signs for "Trains" after baggage claim.
Hop on a commuter train (lines I or P) heading toward Tikkurila or Helsinki Central.
You will most likely transfer to your long distance train at Tikkurila Station. The ride from the airport to Tikkurila takes about 8–10 minutes.
Good to know: If you buy a VR train ticket from “Helsinki Airport” to Vaasa, it includes this commuter train leg. No extra ticket needed.
Once you arrive at Tikkurila, climb the stairs or elevator to check which platform to grab your Inter-city train to Vaasa.
The trains have assigned seating so check your seat!
Travel time is around 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on the connection.
Enjoy views of Finnish lakes, forests, and countryside along the way. Grab a beer from the restaurant cart! ;)
Our Railway Station is centrally located & one of us will greet you at arrival!
For our out-of-town guests, there are some hotel and airbnb options right in the heart of Vaasa — all within walking distance to restaurants, cafés, shopping, and the train station. Quick Tip: using trip websites like Booking can include breakfast from hotels and apartment stay options. Airbnb is also available in town!

Getting to/from Vasa is easy and scenic with the train through the Finnish countryside. Helsinki's airport is an easy starting point to fly to almost any European city. If you'd like to experience more of the Nordics: flying to Stockholm takes about 50 mins, if you're thinking Norway, we recommend Bergen over Oslo!
There is also the option to take ferries to Stockholm or Talinn (Estonia). These ferries are a cultural experience with some boats that include live music, bars and duty-free shopping!
From Vasa airport, you can fly directly to Stockholm. The flights aren't as frequent as from Helsinki, but if the timing is right it's a time saving trip to skip the train. For a quick trip to experience Sweden there is a ferry from Vaasa to Umeå over the Gulf of Bothnia. If you are looking to move onwards into Finland, we recommend heading North into Lapland. Although it is usually Finland's winter wonderland, the summer time is perfect to visit Finnish national parks like Oulanka, located in Ruka.
